Urban Logistics
The final review of the H2Obitat studio, run by 51N4E and ARUP at the Berlage postgraduate laboratory for architecture in Rotterdam, will be held on 29/6 starting from 10h. The studio takes a critical and speculative view on waterfront developments, investigating solutions beyond the current practice. This year’s studio focuses on the relation between the city of Brussels and its port, proposing a more integrated and sustainable organization of logistics throughout the city.

The Brussels-based actress Carly Wijs will present her first creation F=m.a at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2010. The play is inspired by A Moonlit Night by Albanian writer Ismail Kadare. Carly Wijs invited 51N4E to develop a physical deus ex machina.

C-Mine construction site delivered
The C-Mine cultural complex offers a new symbiosis between the former coalmine power station and new cultural amenities (2 new theatres, high-end exhibition space, meeting rooms, bars and outdoor panoramic terraces). C-Mine will officially open to the public early September 2010.

Peter Swinnen, partner at 51N4E, has been appointed as the upcoming ‘state architect’ for the Flemish Region. From July onwards he will supervise and steer the quality level of new urban and architectural developments in Flanders. He will equally focus on the international relevance of the region’s potential. Peter Swinnen remains active partner at 51N4E.

Freek Persyn to teach at Mendrisio
Freek Persyn, partner at 51N4E, has been assigned the position of Visiting Professor at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio (Switzerland). Currently Freek Persyn is heading, together with Laurens Tait of Arup Amsterdam, the H2OBITAT studio on strategic sustainability at the Berlage Institute Rotterdam.

Start construction Skanderbeg Square Tirana
The construction site for the redevelopment of Skanderbeg Square, Tirana, has officially started. The square will be developed in two phases. The end of phase 1 (underground construction) is foreseen for the end of 2010.
